Modern Hairstyles Biography
Good modern day hairstyles abound, and choosing a nice style is the way to define yourself. A nice hairstyle compliments clothes, jewelry and accessories to show how fashionable you are. A decent hairstylist can give you a modern hairstyle that matches the shape of your face, skin tone, and body shape. They can even match the hairstyle look of celebrities, or give you a cutting edge emo or punk style that will be sure to attract attention. Whether you have curly, straight, or long hair, you can find a modern hairstyle that works for you.
One of the most interesting modern day hairstyles to become popular recently is the layered hairstyle. With this style the hair is cut in a manner that causes different layers to emerge and take on a jagged look, or with only a few layers, you can have a softer look.
Having Dreadlocks is another modern day style option that stands out and makes a statement, but it is not the simplest style to create or maintain. You should ask your hairstylist about all the maintenance issues involved with having dreadlocks before you take the plunge.
As one of the world's most sought-after catwalk models, the face of some of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world and a Victoria's Secret Angel, Karlie Kloss is a modern supermodel.
Karlie Elizabeth Kloss was born in Chicago, Illinois in August 1992, where she lived for three years before the family relocated to St Louis, Missouri. Her father is an emergency room doctor and her mother is an artist. Kloss has three sisters.
In 2002, Kloss began studying classical ballet at Caston's Ballet Academy. Though she was too tall to take dance up professionally, the training helped her to succeed as a model. She told Vogue: "My ballet training was honestly the most valuable thing I could have done to prepare myself for this career…[modelling] is about movement, about rhythm, about your body and your muscles."
Aged only 13, Kloss was discovered by scouts Jeff and Mary Clarke when she walked in a St Louis charity fashion show. Two years later, she was signed by Elite Model Management.
Kloss made her catwalk debut walking for Calvin Klein in New York. She also walked for Alexander McQueen, Sonia Rykiel, Valentino and Gucci in her first season.
Kloss landed her first Vogue cover for Teen Vogue in February 2008. She was photographed by Patrick Demarchelier alongside Chanel Iman and Ali Michael. A year later she was featured as one of fashion's favourite faces in the September issue of American Vogue. The photographer, Steven Meisel, said: "She's an amazing model. She knows clothes. She has tons of energy. She will add things to a shoot that I would never have thought of."
The model was chosen as the face for the Marc Jacobs fragrance Lola and Bulgari's Omnia Jade fragrance, as well as fronting campaigns for Pringle, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Hermes and Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, to name just a few.
Kloss was chosen for a feature toasting the supermodels of the decade in British Vogue's December 2010 issue. Mario Testino shot Kloss alongside Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.
In May 2011, Kloss graduated high school and attended her prom wearing a tangerine Dior gown.
November 2011 saw Kloss make her debut as a Victoria's Secret model, walking the catwalk alongside legendary Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepool, Adriana Lima and Lily Aldridge.
In 2012, her supermodel credentials were further cemented as she was chosen as the face of campaigns for Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab and Donna Karan, as well as walking for Miu Miu, Lanvin, Balmain and Dior.
Kloss made her British Vogue debut in September 2012.
In 2013, she teamed up with the denim label, Frame to create jeans that catered for tall women. As well as this, she worked with Matthew Williamson for his new high-street campaign with Swedish brand Lindex and fronted campaigns for Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton and Coach, among others.
A year after purchasing her first home, a Manhattan townhouse in the West Village, Kloss showed off the new pad in the March 2014 issue of American Vogue.
Kloss is well known for her charming personality and good nature; Alexander Wang described her as, "a rare balance of beauty and personality." She has been handing out her homemade Karlie's Kookies at fashion shows since 2012, from which all proceeds go to the charity, FEED.
Kloss is godmother to Jourdan Dunn's son, Riley.
With such success, it is difficult to believe that Kloss is still only 21. As well as continuing with her supermodel career, she has expressed an interest in studying at Harvard University.
She will be speaking at the Vogue Festival on March 30. Buy your tickets here. Good modern day hairstyles abound, and choosing a nice style is the way to define yourself.
